DASK Earthquake Insurance Premium Calculator

Enter your home’s gross floor area, construction type and earthquake risk group. The sum insured, yearly premium and deductible of Türkiye’s compulsory earthquake insurance (DASK) are worked out with the official tariff of the month the policy starts.

Last updated:

The price per m² and the cover cap change every month. The tariff does not say which date picks the month; the calculator uses the month the policy starts (our reading).

Construction

Reinforced concrete: a building with a steel or reinforced-concrete load-bearing frame. Other: every other building.

DASK sets it by address (I is the highest risk). DASK’s premium page shows the group of your address.

Under the tariff, the home’s gross floor area (or approximate area).

Storeys above the ground floor; the ground floor and basements do not count.

Building permit year

Policy

A policy renewed no later than 30 days after it ends gets the renewal discount.

Compulsory earthquake insurance tariff: SEDDK (tebliğ) / DASK (aylık değerler)

How it is calculated

Compulsory earthquake insurance (the DASK policy) is issued by the Natural Disaster Insurance Institution under Law 6305 on Disaster Insurance. It is compulsory for dwellings registered at the land registry and is asked for when opening electricity and water accounts and at title transfers (Arts. 10–11 of the Law). It pays for material damage to the building; under the General Conditions all movable goods and contents are excluded. Under Art. 8/A of the tariff, the prices per m², the cover cap and the minimum premiums rise every month by the monthly change in the domestic producer price index (Yİ-ÜFE) published the month before (a negative change counts as zero), so the premium for the same home changes slightly every month. If the price per m² rises during the policy, your sum insured rises by the same rate at no extra premium. DASK sets the risk group for each address from the earthquake hazard map, ground conditions and building data.

FormulaSum insured = min(Gross m² × price per m², Cover cap); Premium = Sum insured × Tariff rate (‰) × (1 + sum of adjustments), at least the minimum premiumTariff rates (per mille), risk group I to VII: reinforced concrete 2.82 · 2.51 · 2.13 · 2.00 · 1.50 · 1.07 · 0.73; other 4.96 · 4.25 · 3.73 · 3.49 · 2.79 · 1.86 · 1.09. For reinforced concrete: a building permit before 2,000 adds 10%, 3 storeys or fewer above the ground floor take off 10%, 8 or more add 10%; a policy renewed within 30 days of ending gets 20% off for both types. The adjustments are added together; the “other” type only gets the renewal discount.
  1. The price per m² of the month the policy starts is multiplied by the gross area (the tariff does not say which date picks the month; taking the start month is our reading); if the result exceeds the cover cap, the cap is used.
  2. The tariff rate for the risk group and construction type is adjusted by the sum of the storey, permit-year and renewal adjustments.
  3. The sum insured is multiplied by that rate; if the result is below the risk group’s minimum premium, the minimum is paid. If the month’s minimum premiums are not published yet, the latest published month’s are used (under Art. 8/A the minimums can only rise, so the real minimum may be higher). The premium is rounded to the kuruş; the tariff does not say how to round, so this is our choice.
  4. On each claim, a deductible of 2% of the sum insured is taken off.

Example

A 100 m² reinforced-concrete home in risk group I, in a 5-storey building (no storey discount or surcharge), first policy: the sum insured is 100 × that month’s price per m² for reinforced concrete (unless it exceeds the cover cap); the yearly premium is 2.82‰ of it, but not less than the minimum premium; the deductible on each claim is 2% of the sum insured. Enter the policy start date to see that month’s amounts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my earthquake risk group?

The group is set per address, not per province or district. On DASK’s “Policy premium and sum calculation” page, choose the province, district, neighbourhood and building details to see your address’s tariff; it is also printed on your policy. Group I is the highest risk, group VII the lowest.

Why does the DASK premium change every month?

The fixed amounts in the tariff (prices per m², the cover cap and the minimum premiums) rise every month by the monthly Yİ-ÜFE change published the month before. The per-mille rate stays the same, but the sum insured grows, so the premium does too. The calculator uses the values for the month of the policy start date.

What is the cover cap, and what if my home is worth more?

It is the highest sum insured a dwelling can get, whatever the construction type. If area × price per m² exceeds it, the sum insured is set to the cap. For the excess, insurers can sell optional earthquake cover, provided the DASK policy is in place.

How large is the deductible?

On each claim the deductible is 2% of the sum insured; DASK pays the part above it. Each 72-hour period counts as one claim.

How do I get the renewal discount?

If the expiring policy is renewed within 30 days, the tariff rate is cut by 20%. Miss that window and the new-policy tariff applies.
