How it is calculated
According to the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, the Eid prayer is held in congregation once the sun has risen a little and the disliked time after sunrise has ended, and it can be performed until the sun’s zenith (zawal). As the time follows sunrise, it comes more than an hour earlier in the east of Turkey than in the west (about 70 to 85 minutes by this calculation, depending on the season). Mosques hold it at the time Diyanet announces.
Eid prayer = dhuhr − H(+5°)The Eid prayer time begins when the disliked time after sunrise ends. Diyanet states no angle for it; HerHesap uses the sun’s altitude that reproduces Diyanet’s announced Eid prayer times to within a minute (5°). H is the hour angle at which the sun reaches that height (1° = 4 minutes).- The first day of the Eid comes from Diyanet’s Hijri calendar: Eid al-Fitr is 1 Shawwal, Eid al-Adha 10 Dhu al-Hijjah.
- The sun’s declination that day gives the moment it reaches 5 degrees.
- The result is rounded to the minute, in Turkish time.

Do these match Diyanet’s announced times?
The calculation is fitted to the times Diyanet announces and chosen to come within 1 minute of them; it is not Diyanet’s own calculation. Diyanet announces the times for each province before every Eid; check that announcement for the exact minute.
How long after sunrise is the Eid prayer?
There is no fixed number of minutes: the sun takes a different time to climb 5 degrees depending on the season and latitude. In Turkey it comes about 29–38 minutes after the actual sunrise, 35–45 minutes after the sunrise time in Diyanet’s calendar.
