How it is calculated
Borsa İstanbul’s precious metals market is where standard gold (at least 995/1000) trades officially in Turkey; its prices are published at the end of each day and can be looked up back to 4 August 2008. There is no official daily history for coin prices, so the tool values coins from their has-gold content. Jewellers’ prices that day differ by their markup.
Value = Quantity × Fine grams × That day’s price per fine gramThe gram has-gold price is a thousandth of the TRY/kg price Borsa İstanbul published for that day. Has grams are the kind’s fine-gold content (gross × 916.6/1000 for coins).- Borsa İstanbul’s price for the chosen day is used; without trading that day (weekend, holiday) the previous trading day’s price is used and the result says so.
- From 2011 it is the metal price (weighted average of same-day trades), before that the exchange’s reference price.
- The has-gold content is multiplied by that day’s and the latest price; the percentage between them is the price change.
Example
On 4 January 2011 the metal price was 70,312.31 TRY/kg, so a gram of has gold was 70.31 lira; 10 grams were worth 703.10 lira that day.
Frequently asked questions
Which price applies on a weekend or holiday?
No price forms while the market is closed; the tool uses the previous trading day and says which day it used.
Can I use this price on a tax return?
The figure is a theoretical value for information, not an official valuation. Document your purchase price with the invoice or bank record, and ask an accountant if needed.
Why are there no prices before 2008?
Borsa İstanbul’s openly available price archive starts on 4 August 2008. Older Istanbul Gold Exchange data sits in the central bank’s EVDS system, which needs an API key.
