How it is calculated

The summer time Turkey began on 27 March 2016 is kept “every year, all year” under Council of Ministers Decision 2016/9154 (Official Gazette 8 September 2016), which cancelled the move back on 30 October 2016; Turkey has used UTC+3 all year since. In the European Union summer time runs from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October (Directive 2000/84/EC Arts. 2–3, at 01:00 UTC); in the US from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November (15 U.S.C. § 260a, as amended by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 § 110). So the difference between Turkey and London, Berlin or New York changes by an hour during the year. In the southern hemisphere, in Sydney for instance, daylight saving runs from October to April; Brazil dropped it in 2019 by Decree 9.772 (as recorded in the IANA database).

FormulaTarget time = Source time − source UTC offset + target UTC offsetThe UTC offset is how far the city’s official time is from Greenwich (UTC) on that date, daylight saving included. Offsets come from the IANA time zone database for the exact date and time entered.
  1. The date and time in the source city are turned into UTC with that city’s offset on that day.
  2. The same instant is turned into the target city’s local time with its offset at that moment; a change of date is shown.
  3. The table lists the same instant in more than 50 cities, sorted by UTC offset.

Frequently asked questions

What is the time difference between Turkey and New York?

New York is 7 hours behind during its daylight saving time (March–November) and 8 hours behind in winter. Use the time difference calculator for the exact difference on a date.

Does Turkey use daylight saving time?

No. Since Council of Ministers Decision 2016/9154 (2016) Turkey has stayed on UTC+3 all year. For dates before 2016 the calculation uses that time’s daylight saving rules.

Why do the live clocks appear after the page loads?
