How it is calculated

CBRT indicative rates are the reference banks use to set their own rates, and the official rates for tax, customs and contracts. Banks and exchange offices may quote differently. No bulletin is published on weekends and public holidays; the last business day’s rates apply.

FormulaKarşılık = Tutar × Kaynak kur ÷ Hedef kurRates are lira per unit of currency (the yen is quoted per 100). Conversions between two foreign currencies go through the lira.
  1. Selling currency uses the bank’s buying rate; buying currency uses the selling rate.
  2. Forex rates are for account transfers, banknote rates for cash.
  3. Rates come from the indicative bulletin the CBRT publishes around 15:30 each business day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the buying and selling rate?

The buying rate is what the bank pays you for currency; the selling rate is what it charges you. The gap is its margin.

What is the banknote rate?

It is the rate for cash notes; the spread is wider because cash costs more to move and store.
