Annual CPI inflation: TÜİK

How it is calculated

Nominal return is how many lira your money gained; real return is how much more it can buy. With high inflation the gap between them widens; subtracting inflation is only an approximation, the Fisher equation is exact. Withholding on deposits and funds lowers the real return too.

FormulaReel getiri = (1 + net nominal getiri) ÷ (1 + enflasyon) − 1Net nominal return = return × (1 − tax rate). The latest annual CPI is 29.73%.

Example

At a 45% return and 29.73% inflation the real return is (1.45 ÷ 1.2973) − 1 = 11.77%; the simple difference (15.27%) overstates it.
