Score types and test weights (2026-MSÜ guide, section 4)
How it is calculated
The MSÜ cadet candidate exam is the first selection stage for military academies and non-commissioned officer vocational schools, and an ÖSYM exam separate from the YKS. 2026-MSÜ was held on 1 Mar 2026 and took 165 minutes; it is one booklet with Turkish 40, Social Sciences 20, Basic Mathematics 40 and Science 20 questions (guide 1.2–1.3, 3.1). By section 4 of the guide the nets become standard scores with all candidates’ mean and SD and four score types are formed: MSÜ Quantitative (SA), Equal Weight (EA), Verbal (SÖ) and General (GN). The Army Academy calls candidates to the second stage by SA, EA and SÖ; the Naval and Air Force Academies and Air Engineering by SA; Air Infantry by EA; the NCO vocational schools by GN; the Ministry of National Defence sets the cut-off (guide p. 25). Placement, however, uses not the MSÜ score but the YKS score (SAY, EA, SÖZ) for the academies and the TYT score (without OBP) for the NCO schools, plus the physical fitness and interview scores (section 13). The nets are exact; ÖSYM did not publish test means with the 2026-MSÜ results, so no standard or weighted score is shown. Results are valid only for the year of the exam.
Net = C − W ÷ 4 · Standard score = 50 + 10 × (net − mean) ÷ SD · MSÜ-SA weighted score = 0.25 × SS(Turkish) + 0.35 × SS(Basic Mathematics) + 0.30 × SS(Science) + 0.10 × SS(Social)C is the number of correct, W of wrong answers; blanks do not count. The mean and SD are those of all candidates’ nets in the test. Weights (Turkish / Basic Mathematics / Science / Social): SA 0.25 / 0.35 / 0.30 / 0.10; EA 0.35 / 0.35 / 0.10 / 0.20; SÖ 0.35 / 0.20 / 0.10 / 0.35; GN 0.33 / 0.33 / 0.17 / 0.17.- In each test a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones: the net (raw score).
- The scores need a raw score of at least 0.5 in Turkish or Basic Mathematics.
- Each net becomes a standard score with mean 50 and SD 10, using all candidates’ mean and SD. ÖSYM did not publish these statistics with the 2026-MSÜ results, so this step cannot be done here.
- The standard scores are added with the guide’s weights and converted to the MSÜ-SA, EA, SÖ and GN scores from 100 to 500; the details of the conversion are not published either.
Example
Turkish 30 correct, 6 wrong: net 30 − 6 ÷ 4 = 28.5. Basic Mathematics 25 correct, 8 wrong: net 23. Social 12 correct, 4 wrong: net 11. Science 10 correct, 4 wrong: net 9. Total net 71.5; blank 120 − 77 − 22 = 21.
Frequently asked questions
Do four wrong answers cancel one correct answer in the MSÜ exam?
Yes. In each test a quarter of the wrong answers is subtracted from the correct ones; blanks do not affect the net (2026-MSÜ guide, section 4).
Is the MSÜ score added to the YKS score?
No. The MSÜ score is used to call candidates to the second selection stages. The candidate evaluation score uses the YKS score (SAY, EA or SÖZ) for the academies, the TYT score (without OBP) for the NCO schools, and the physical fitness and interview scores. So candidates must also sit the same year’s YKS (TYT and AYT for the academies, the TYT for the NCO schools) and reach the YKS cut-off the ministry sets (guide p. 2, condition 7).
How many points is an MSÜ net worth?
There is no fixed answer. The net becomes a standard score with that year’s candidates’ mean and SD; ÖSYM did not publish these statistics or the 100–500 conversion with the 2026-MSÜ results. MSÜ coefficients found online are not ÖSYM values.
Is there a condition for an MSÜ score?
You need a raw score of at least 0.5 in Turkish or Basic Mathematics; otherwise no weighted scores are computed (guide section 4). The ministry sets each school’s call cut-off.
