Final score by interview score 4

How it is calculated

Entry to assistant judge and prosecutor posts follows articles 8 and 9/A of the Judges and Prosecutors Law No. 2802. ÖSYM runs the written competition exam for the Ministry of Justice. Under the 2025-Adalet Bakanlığı Sınavları guide it has two sittings: general ability and culture (30 questions) together with common field knowledge (35 questions), and a separate ordinary-court, lawyer or administrative-court field test (35 questions). In every subtest a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones; the raw scores of the 17 subtests become standard scores with mean 50 and SD 10, are added with weights 1/5 (general ability and culture) and 1/12 (field knowledge) and are rescaled to 0–20 and 0–80. The guide gives neither the formula of that last step nor the session statistics, so the written score cannot be worked out in advance; this tool starts from the written score ÖSYM announces. Applicants also need the HMGS (the İYÖS for non-law graduates in the administrative courts): under the guide, those who enrolled after 24 October 2019 and graduated after 31 March 2024 need at least 70. The age limit is not having reached 35 by 1 January of the exam year for the ordinary and administrative courts, and 45 in the separate exam for lawyers with at least three years’ actual practice (art. 8).

FormulaFinal score = 0.7 × written score + 0.3 × interview score (written ≥ 70, interview ≥ 70)The written score is ÖSYM’s overall score out of 100: general ability and general culture weigh 20 points, field knowledge 80. The interview score is the arithmetic mean of the marks out of 100 the Interview Board members give, each rating 5 qualities out of 20.
  1. Of those with at least 70 in the written exam, the top scorers are called to interview, up to twice the posts in the notice (and anyone tied with the last).
  2. In the interview, a mean of the members’ marks of at least 70 is a pass.
  3. For those who pass, 70% of the written score and 30% of the interview score are added: the final score.
  4. The final list is ranked from the top; on a tie the higher written score comes first, then a draw.

Example

Written 81.25, interview 76: 0.7 × 81.25 + 0.3 × 76 = 56.875 + 22.8 = 79.675. With the same written score, an interview of 70 gives 77.875 and 100 gives 86.875.

Frequently asked questions

How is the final score worked out?

Under article 9/A of Law 2802, 70 per cent of the written score and 30 per cent of the interview score are added and the final list is drawn up by that total. At least 70 is needed in the written exam and at least 70 in the interview.

How many are called to interview?

From those with at least 70 in the written exam, twice the number of posts. The 2025-Adalet Bakanlığı Sınavları notice had 850 ordinary-court, 100 lawyer and 50 administrative-court posts; in each, twice as many candidates are called, and those tied with the last are called too. If fewer pass the mark, only they are called.

Do wrong answers cost points in the written exam?

Yes. Under the guide, a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones in every subtest. That differs from the HMGS and İYÖS prerequisites, where wrong answers are ignored.

What does the interview assess?

Under the law: reasoning; grasping, summarising and expressing a subject; general and physical appearance, behaviour and reactions suited to the profession, and merit; ability and culture; openness to scientific and technological developments. Each is worth 20 points and each board member’s marks are recorded separately.

Do holders of a law doctorate sit the written exam?

No. Under article 9/A, holders of a doctorate in law can apply for the posts and sit only the interview; a separate final list is drawn up for them by interview score.
