HMGS Score Calculator
Enter your correct answers in the Hukuk Mesleklerine Giriş Sınavı (HMGS, Türkiye’s legal professions entrance exam): your raw score follows exactly. The score itself uses the formula in the Ministry of Justice notice with the session’s raw-score mean, standard deviation and maximum; enter them if you know them.
- Raw score (correct answers)90

HMGS/İYÖS notice and guide: Adalet Bakanlığı / ÖSYM
How it is calculated
The HMGS was introduced by additional article 41 of Higher Education Law No. 2547: passing the HMGS or the İYÖS is required to sit the assistant judge and prosecutor exam and to start the legal or notary traineeship. The requirement applies to those who enrolled in higher education after 24 October 2019 and graduated after 31 March 2024 (Law 2547, provisional art. 80; Regulation art. 2). Law graduates, and graduates of foreign law schools with an equivalence certificate, sit the HMGS; law graduates also take the HMGS for the administrative courts. The İYÖS is only for non-law graduates: those with at least four years of study in political science, public administration, economics or public finance in programmes that give enough room to law (additional art. 41, second paragraph; Regulation art. 5(1)(b)). It has at least 120 multiple-choice questions, and at least 70 out of 100 is a pass. Under the regulation, the HMGS is held twice a year, in April and September (art. 6). Scoring changed with the 2026-HMGS/2, 2026-İYÖS sessions: the Ministry of Justice notice and the ÖSYM guide say the score uses the mean, standard deviation and maximum of the raw scores. In the previous session (2026-HMGS/1) every question had the same value. ÖSYM does not publish these session values, so the score cannot be known exactly before the results; the tool gives the raw score exactly and applies the formula if you enter the values.
Raw score (HP) = correct answers · Score = 70 + 30 × [7 × (HP − X) − S] ÷ [7 × (B − X) − S]HP is the candidate’s raw score, the number of correct answers; wrong and blank answers do not count. X is the mean raw score of all candidates, S the standard deviation of raw scores, B the highest raw score of the session. The candidate with the highest raw score gets 100; a raw score of X + S ÷ 7 gets exactly 70.- The exam has 120 questions and lasts 155 minutes. Your correct answers are your raw score; wrong answers do not lower it.
- ÖSYM works out X, S and B from all candidates’ raw scores.
- The formula turns your raw score into a score out of 100; 70 or more is a pass.
- So the correct answers needed for 70 are not fixed: it is the first whole number at or above X + S ÷ 7.
Example
Take hypothetical session values X = 80, S = 12, B = 115. With 90 correct: 70 + 30 × (7 × 10 − 12) ÷ (7 × 35 − 12) = 70 + 30 × 58 ÷ 233 = 77.468. The raw score for the mark is 80 + 12 ÷ 7 = 81.71, so at least 82 correct (82 gives 70.258).
Frequently asked questions
Do wrong answers cancel correct ones in the HMGS?
No. Under the guide only correct answers are counted and wrong answers are ignored; the raw score is the number of correct answers. Leaving a question blank has no advantage.
How many correct answers does 70 need in the HMGS?
There is no fixed number. In the formula a raw score of X + S ÷ 7 gets exactly 70; X is the session’s mean raw score, S its standard deviation. As the mean or spread changes, so does the number needed.
Where do I find the session mean and SD?
ÖSYM has not published them for 2026-HMGS/2, 2026-İYÖS; the result document shows your score, your correct and wrong counts and pass/fail. If you enter values from elsewhere, the tool applies the guide’s formula, but the result is only as good as those values.
How long is an HMGS result valid?
Neither additional article 41 of Law 2547 nor the HMGS and İYÖS Regulation sets a validity period for a pass. The result document states that it is valid for candidates who met the conditions of article 5 of the Regulation (a law degree or equivalence) on the exam date.
What happens if a question is cancelled?
Cancelled questions are left out and the valid questions’ value is set again; if a court cancels a question after the results, it is applied in the candidates’ favour. In 2026-HMGS/1, for example, questions 70 and 110 of the base booklet were cancelled by a court decision and ÖSYM redid the evaluation (ÖSYM notice, 23 October 2026).
