How it is calculated
High-school grading works in three steps. Each course’s two term grades give its year-end score; that year’s course scores are multiplied by their weekly hours, added up and divided by the total hours: the year-end success score (Secondary Schools Regulation arts. 54, 55). Under art. 65(1), the diploma score is the arithmetic mean of the year-end success scores of grades nine to twelve: weighting by hours happens within a year, and the years count equally. Prep-year scores do not count (art. 60(1)); the student with the highest diploma score is the school’s top graduate (art. 64). Art. 66 has separate rules for students who studied abroad. ÖSYM takes the diploma score from e-Okul in June and multiplies it by 5 to get the Ortaöğretim Başarı Puanı (OBP); it is worked out nationally, with no school-based adjustment (2026-YKS guide, 4.1). The placement score is the exam score plus OBP × 0.12 (4.2). The coefficients are announced again in each year’s YKS guide; this page is updated when a new guide is out.
Diploma score = (year-end success score of grades 9 + 10 + 11 + 12) ÷ 4 · OBP = diploma score × 5 · OBP contribution = OBP × 0.12 (half if placed last year) · Placement score = YKS score + OBP contribution (+ extra points, if any)A year-end success score is the mean of that year’s course scores weighted by weekly hours (arts. 54, 55). The diploma score is the mean of the four, carried to 4 decimals (art. 65(1)). The OBP is 5 times the diploma score; a diploma score under 50, or one not reported, counts as 50. The OBP is added with coefficient 0.12 to the TYT, SAY, SÖZ, EA and DİL scores (100–500); vocational graduates get extra points with coefficient 0.06 in programmes of their field. For those placed with 2025-YKS, both coefficients are halved.- Take each grade’s year-end success score from e-Okul or work it out with the year-end success score calculator; if you already know the diploma score, choose “Diploma score”.
- The four are added, divided by four and cut at 4 decimals: the diploma score (art. 65(1)).
- The diploma score times 5 gives the OBP (guide, 4.1).
- The OBP times 0.12 is added to the YKS score; after a placement last year the coefficient is halved, and vocational extra points add OBP × 0.06 (guide, 4.2).
Example
Year-end success scores 78.4521, 81.2, 84.75 and 88.1: (78.4521 + 81.2 + 84.75 + 88.1) ÷ 4 = 83.125525 → 83.1255. OBP = 83.1255 × 5 = 415.6275. In 2026-YKS it adds 415.6275 × 0.12 = 49.8753; with a TYT score of 350.5 the placement score is 400.3753.
Frequently asked questions
How is the high-school diploma score worked out?
Under art. 65(1) of the Secondary Schools Regulation, the year-end success scores of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 are added and divided by four. The division is carried to 4 decimals; the score is cut there, not rounded.
Is the diploma score weighted by course hours?
Weighting happens within each year: a course weighs its weekly hours, and the year-end success score is the sum of weighted course scores divided by the total hours (arts. 54, 55). In the diploma score the four years count equally (art. 65(1)).
What is the OBP and how is it worked out?
The Ortaöğretim Başarı Puanı is the diploma score out of 100 times 5. A diploma score under 50, or one not reported to ÖSYM, counts as 50, so the OBP runs from that of a 50 diploma to that of a 100 diploma (2026-YKS guide, 4.1).
How is the OBP added to the YKS score?
The OBP is multiplied by 0.12 and added to each of the TYT, SAY, SÖZ, EA and DİL scores; the result is the placement score of that type (2026-YKS guide, 4.2). So the contribution is a fixed multiple of the OBP, not a percentage of the score, and it is the same for every score type.
I was placed last year; does my OBP contribution drop?
Yes. For candidates ÖSYM placed in a programme with 2025-YKS scores (registered or not, ÖZYES included), or who enrolled in one through an aptitude exam, the OBP coefficients are halved. They are not halved for those who were placed but could not register because they had not yet received their high-school diploma (2026-YKS guide, 4.2).
Do vocational school graduates get extra points?
Graduates of schools running a vocational programme get OBP × 0.06 extra points when placed in the programmes the guide’s Tables 3A, 3B.1, 3C and 3D list as a continuation of their field. For Tables 3A and 3B.1 (bachelor’s programmes) this applies only to those enrolled at the school on or before 30 Mar 2012; 3C and 3D are associate programmes (2026-YKS guide, 4.2 and 5).
What if ÖSYM shows the wrong diploma score?
ÖSYM imports the diploma score from MEB’s e-Okul in June. Corrections are made through your school in e-Okul, not by ÖSYM, within the period ÖSYM announces; you must check and confirm your education details in ÖSYM’s candidate system (2026-YKS guide, 4.1).
