How it is calculated
An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) identifies the receiving account in transfers. Its check digits catch a single mistyped digit or two swapped digits, but a valid IBAN does not prove the account exists. Check the recipient’s name on your bank’s screen before sending money.
İlk 4 karakter sona taşınır, harfler sayıya çevrilir (A = 10 … Z = 35); sayı 97’ye bölündüğünde kalan 1 olmalı.- A Turkish IBAN has 26 characters: TR, 2 check digits, a 5-digit bank code, 1 reserved digit (0) and a 16-digit account field.
- Length and characters are checked, then the mod-97 test.
- The bank code is looked up in the list of bank codes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find the branch from an IBAN?
No. Only the bank code is standard in a Turkish IBAN; each bank sets the layout of the 16-digit account field, which need not contain a branch code.
Is it safe to send money to a valid IBAN?
Validity only means the number is well formed. Always compare the recipient’s name with what your bank shows.
