Desi (Volumetric Weight) Calculator
Enter the parcel’s width, length and height in centimetres and pick the carrier. Desi is worked out with the divisor the carrier states on its own site; add the weight to compare it with the kilograms.
- Divisor (Aras Kargo, domestic)3,000
- Volume of one piece24.00 dm³
- Desi of one piece8.00 desi
- Total weight5.00 kg
- Greater of kg and desi (total)8.00 desi

How it is calculated
Desi is a volume measure that lets carriers price light but bulky parcels as if by weight. Carriers multiply the dimensions and divide by their own divisor, which differs between domestic and international services and can differ under a contract. The divisors here come from each carrier’s own site and are checked every six months; carriers that do not state theirs are left out, so use “I will enter a divisor” for them.
Desi = Width × Length × Height (cm) ÷ Divisor; chargeable = greater of kg and desiDivisor: the number the carrier states on its own site; it is how many cubic centimetres make one desi. For example, Aras Kargo uses 3,000 domestically and 5,000 internationally. The results table lists both divisors of every carrier.- Measure the parcel’s outer dimensions in centimetres.
- Multiply the three and divide by the carrier’s divisor: that is one piece’s desi.
- Compare it with the scale weight; for several pieces, do it piece by piece and add up.
Example
A 30 × 40 × 20 cm box is 24,000 cm³. At Aras Kargo it comes to 24,000 ÷ 3,000 desi domestically and 24,000 ÷ 5,000 internationally; the tool shows the result and every other carrier’s figure in the table. If the scale weight is below that, a carrier that charges by the greater of kg and desi charges by the desi.
Frequently asked questions
How is desi worked out?
Multiply width, length and height in centimetres and divide by the carrier’s divisor. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm box is 60,000 cm³; at Aras Kargo that is 60,000 ÷ 3,000 desi domestically. The divisor can differ by carrier and service, so use your carrier’s.
Is shipping charged by desi or by kg?
Aras Kargo, Sürat Kargo and Yurtiçi Kargo say on their sites that they charge by the greater of kg and desi; Sürat and Yurtiçi add that they do it piece by piece in multi-piece shipments. For a carrier whose site does not say so, check its tariff. Pick the carrier and enter the weight, and the result note shows what that carrier’s site says.
Why is international desi smaller?
A larger divisor gives fewer desi: Aras Kargo divides by 5,000 internationally and by 3,000 domestically. The same box comes to fewer desi abroad, but the price list is different too.
Is a fractional desi rounded?
Price lists go in steps, and which step a fractional desi falls into depends on the carrier’s tariff. This tool shows the unrounded figure.
