Depreciation Calculator (Turkey)

Pick the asset type, enter its cost and the date it went on the books. The useful life comes from GİB’s depreciation list, and the year-by-year schedule follows the Tax Procedure Law, straight-line or declining balance.

Last updated:

The useful life comes from GİB’s depreciation list. If your asset is not here, pick “Other” and enter its life.

Method

Declining balance is only for businesses on the balance-sheet basis; the rate is twice the normal one, at most 50%.

By default an asset bought during the year gets a full year. You may instead count days from the date a new asset is ready for use; passenger cars always count months.

Depreciation schedule 5

How it is calculated

Depreciation spreads the cost of business assets that wear out and are used for more than a year over several years of taxable profit (VUK 313). Fixtures and key money worth no more than ₺12,000 may be expensed in the year they are bought; the limit is raised every year by the revaluation rate. Vacant land is not depreciated. Straight-line applies to all bookkeeping bases; only balance-sheet businesses may choose declining balance. Depreciation skipped in one year cannot be caught up later.

FormulaNormal: Amortisman = Maliyet × (1 ÷ Ömür); Azalan bakiyeler: Amortisman = Kalan değer × min(2 ÷ Ömür, %50); son yıl kalan değerin tamamıThe rate is the inverse of the useful life, cut to two decimals as GİB prints it (6.66% for 15 years). Depreciation starts in the year the asset goes on the books, and an asset bought during the year gets a full year. Passenger cars count only the months left in the first year (a part month counts in full); the rest is written off in the last year of the life. For new assets a business may instead count days (life × 365 days).

Example

₺250,000 of furniture (5 years): straight-line gives ₺50,000 a year. Declining balance uses 40%: ₺100,000, 60,000, 36,000, 21,600 and the remaining ₺32,400 in the last year.

Frequently asked questions

What is the direct expensing limit?

₺12,000 in 2026. Tools, furnishings, fixtures and key money up to this amount may be expensed without depreciation. Items that form an economic and technical whole count together.

Is depreciation pro-rated for an asset bought mid-year?

Not under the general rule: the year it goes on the books counts in full. Monthly pro-rating is compulsory only for passenger cars. Since 2022 a business may choose day-based depreciation for new assets; the choice cannot be changed later.

Is car depreciation capped?

Yes. For a car bought in 2026, depreciation is deductible on up to ₺1,380,000 of cost excluding ÖTV and VAT, or ₺2,600,000 when those taxes are added to cost or the car is second-hand. Depreciation on the excess is non-deductible, and the cap of the purchase year applies for the car’s whole life.

Can I use a longer life than the list?

Yes. Under VUK 320/4 you may set a life no shorter than the list, up to twice it and at most 50 years; the choice is made at the end of the provisional tax period the asset is acquired in and cannot be changed. Use “Other” and enter the life.

Can I switch from straight-line to declining balance?

No. Once straight-line has started on an asset it stays. You may move from declining balance to straight-line; the remaining value is then spread evenly over the remaining years.
