How it is calculated
The Medical Subspecialty Training Entrance Exam (YDUS) is the exam ÖSYM holds at least once a year under the Regulation on Specialty Training in Medicine and Dentistry to place physicians already specialised in a main specialty into its subspecialties (e.g. nephrology or gastroenterology from internal medicine; paediatric cardiology from paediatrics) (art. 12; 2026-YDUS guide, 1.1). The same exam also places specialists who, under the third column of Annex 1 to Law 1219, may complete a main specialty in a shortened training, into main specialties where places are opened (1.1). It is not a language exam. Under the 2026-YDUS guide the exam is held in Ankara; in six main specialties (emergency medicine, anaesthesiology and reanimation, paediatrics, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology) 60 multiple-choice questions are answered in 80 minutes, while the other specialties sit a written exam of open-ended questions (1.3). In the multiple-choice tests a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones and the net is converted to a YDUS score out of 100 (4.2). Unlike TUS there is no standard score and no scaling against other candidates; your own net sets your score, so the page computes it exactly. ÖSYM’s 2026-YDUS placement scores bear the rule out: all 1,382 lowest and highest scores of the five multiple-choice specialties with no cancelled question are a net times 100/60, or that cut by 5%, rounded to five decimals (e.g. 60.83333 = 36.5 × 100/60); the page rounds to five decimals too. Only candidates scoring 45 or more are placed (4.5), and a result counts only for that session and the specialty applied for (4.6).
Net = C − W ÷ 4 · YDUS score = net × 100 ÷ 60 · Placement score = YDUS score × (1 − 0.05) (when the cut applies)C is the number of correct, W of wrong answers; blanks do not count. 60 is the number of multiple-choice questions; if ÖSYM cancels a question, the score is recalculated over the valid questions. The cut applies to candidates still in specialty training, to the first exam after resigning from training, and after a placement not taken up.- A quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones: the net. The multiple-choice test has 60 questions and lasts 80 minutes.
- The net is divided by the number of questions and multiplied by 100: the YDUS score. There is no standard score; the score depends only on your own net.
- If one of the cut cases applies, the placement score is reduced by 0.05 times the score.
- Only candidates scoring 45 or more are placed. The guide does not say whether the threshold applies before or after the cut; the page applies it to the cut score (our reading; the lowest cut score placed in the 2026 YDUS is 45.52083).
Example
40 correct, 12 wrong: net 40 − 12 ÷ 4 = 37; YDUS score 37 × 100 ÷ 60 = 61.66667. With the cut, the placement score is 61.66667 × 0.95 = 58.58333. Both are above the 45 threshold.
Frequently asked questions
Is YDUS a language exam?
No. YDUS is the Medical Subspecialty Training Entrance Exam, a professional-knowledge exam for specialists entering subspecialty training. The language exam is YDS.
How is the YDUS score calculated?
In the multiple-choice test a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones and the net is converted to a score out of 100: score = net × 100 ÷ 60 (2026-YDUS guide, 4.2). A net of 45, for example, scores 75.
What is the YDUS threshold?
Only candidates with a YDUS score of 45 or more are placed (2026-YDUS guide, 4.5). With a cut, the page applies the threshold to the cut score: the guide does not say so explicitly, but the 2026 YDUS placement scores are consistent with this reading.
When does the score cut apply?
For candidates still in specialty training, in the first exam after resigning from training and after a placement not taken up, the placement score is reduced by 0.05 times the score (2026-YDUS guide, 1.6; Regulation art. 13/3, raised from 2% to 5% by the amendment in Official Gazette no. 32548 of 16.5.2024). It must be declared on the application form.
How are the written-exam specialties scored?
Specialties such as physical medicine and rehabilitation, chest diseases, neurology and radiology sit a written exam; the answers are marked to give a YDUS score out of 100 (4.3–4.4). That score does not come from a net, so the page covers only the multiple-choice test.
