How it is calculated

The Medical Specialty Training Entrance Exam (TUS) is the professional-knowledge exam ÖSYM holds at least twice a year under the Regulation on Specialty Training in Medicine and Dentistry (art. 12). It has two tests: the 100-question Basic Medical Sciences Test in the morning and the 100-question Clinical Medical Sciences Test in the afternoon, 135 minutes each (2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide, 1.3). Scoring is in section 4.2 of the guide: each test gives a net, the nets become standard scores with the session’s mean and SD, the standard scores are weighted into the K (clinical), T (basic) and optional A (family medicine) score types for medical graduates, and finally the weighted scores are moved, with their own distribution, to the TUS scale, whose top is 55 + 30. The quota table says which score type each specialty selects by. Choosing programmes needs a score of at least 45 in that type (1.2, 5.5). ÖSYM does not publish the TUS test means and SDs; each session’s “numerical information” only gives the lowest and highest placement scores per programme. The page therefore computes your nets exactly and makes no score estimate.

FormulaNet = C − W ÷ 4 · Standard score = 50 + 10 × (net − mean) ÷ SD · K = 0.4 × SS(TTBT) + 0.6 × SS(KTBT) · TUS score = 55 + 30 × [7(AP − X) − S] ÷ [7(EBAP − X) − S]C is the number of correct, W of wrong answers; blanks do not count. The mean and SD are computed from that session’s nets in the test; the guide does not say which candidates are included. AP is the candidate’s weighted score; X and S are the mean and SD of the weighted scores and EBAP the highest weighted score (guide 4.2, p. 29). The T score weighs TTBT 0.6 and KTBT 0.4; the A score is the KTBT standard score alone; for non-physicians the T score is the TTBT standard score alone.
  1. In each test, a quarter of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones: the net (raw score). The Basic Medical Sciences Test (TTBT) and the Clinical Medical Sciences Test (KTBT) have 100 and 100 questions.
  2. Each net becomes a standard score with mean 50 and SD 10, using the session’s test mean and SD.
  3. The two standard scores are added with the weights in section 4.2 of the guide (p. 28): weighted K, weighted T and, for contracted family physicians who ask for it, weighted A.
  4. The weighted scores become the K, T and A scores, whose maximum is 55 + 30, with the session’s X, S and EBAP. ÖSYM publishes neither these nor the test statistics, so the page stops at the nets.

Example

TTBT 70 correct, 20 wrong: net 70 − 20 ÷ 4 = 65. KTBT 75 correct, 16 wrong: net 75 − 4 = 71. Of the 200 questions, 19 are blank. The score depends on where both nets stand among that session’s nets.

Frequently asked questions

How many wrong answers cancel a correct one in TUS?

Four. In each test a quarter of the wrong answers is subtracted from the correct ones; blanks do not affect the net (2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide, 4.2).

What are the K and T scores?

Both come from the same two standard scores with different weights: K = 0.4 × TTBT + 0.6 × KTBT, T = 0.6 × TTBT + 0.4 × KTBT. The quota tables show which score type each specialty selects by (2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide, 5.5). The A score for contracted family physicians uses the clinical test alone, and the T score of non-physicians the basic test alone.

How many points is a given net worth?

There is no fixed answer. The TUS score depends on where a net stands among the session’s nets; since ÖSYM publishes neither the test means and SDs nor the weighted-score distribution, no net can be turned into a score in advance. Online net-to-score tables are not ÖSYM values.

What is the TUS threshold?

To choose programmes, the score used for placement must be at least 45; below it, a candidate is not placed in programmes that select by that score type (2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide, 5.5). Placement also requires foreign-language proficiency (1.4).

Does my score drop if I sit TUS while in specialty training?

Yes. For candidates still in specialty training, in the first exam after resigning from training and after a placement not taken up, the placement score is reduced by 0.05 times the score (2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide, 1.5; Regulation art. 13/3, raised from 2% to 5% by the amendment in Official Gazette no. 32548 of 16.5.2024). This must be declared on the application form.

Can non-physicians sit TUS?

Only for the Medical Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology specialties, and only if places are opened for them. Table 1A of the 2026-TUS 2. Dönem guide lists them as graduates of the chemistry and biochemistry departments of faculties of science or equivalent faculties, schools of chemistry, faculties of pharmacy, schools of pharmacy (whose graduates must hold the title of pharmacist) and faculties of veterinary medicine. Their score uses the standard score of the Basic Medical Sciences Test alone (4.2). A decision of the Council of State’s 8th Chamber of 12.11.2025 (E. 2022/6720, K. 2025/8541) annulled the word “veterinarian(s)” in art. 13/1 and 13/2 of the Regulation (consolidated text on mevzuat.gov.tr), while the guide still lists the faculty of veterinary medicine. Veterinarians should follow ÖSYM’s and the Ministry of Health’s current announcements.
