Scholarship Exam (İOKBS) Net Calculator
Choose your grade and enter your correct and wrong answers in the four tests: your nets follow the “three wrongs cancel one correct” rule of MEB’s 2026 İOKBS guide exactly. The page also explains how the official 100–500 score is computed, the income limit for applying and the scholarship quotas.

How it is calculated
The Primary and Secondary Schools Scholarship Exam (İOKBS) is MEB’s scholarship exam; in MEB’s 2016 guide it was called the free boarding and scholarship exam (PYBS). Students in grades 5–8 of lower secondary school and in the preparatory class and grades 9, 10 and 11 of upper secondary school who lack financial means may apply: the family’s 2025 income per family member must not exceed ₺250,000 for the 2026 financial year (guide 1.1(d)). The exam is a single session of 80 questions in 100 minutes. The tests depend on the grade: in grades 5–7 Turkish, mathematics, science and social studies (including religious culture); in grade 8 and the preparatory class social sciences (revolution history and religious culture) instead of social studies; in grades 9–11 Turkish language and literature, mathematics, science (physics, chemistry, biology) and social sciences (history, geography, religious culture). The score is computed from standard scores as in the LGS and placed between 100 and 500; it depends on the nets of everyone who sat the exam that year and cannot be known in advance, since MEB does not publish the test statistics. The guide gives no fixed scholarship score; of the scholarship quota, 10% goes to students with statutory rights, 5% to children of MEB teachers, 5% to students whose settlement has no lower secondary school and 80% to everyone else (guide 1.2.1). In the 2026 İOKBS results, 70,000 of 971,786 applicants won a scholarship.
Net = C − W ÷ 3 · SS = 50 + 10 × (net − mean) ÷ SD · TASP = Σ 3 × SS · Score = 100 + 400 × (TASP − smallest TASP) ÷ (largest TASP − smallest TASP)C is the number of correct, W of wrong answers; blanks do not count. The mean and SD are those of all students’ nets in that test. All four tests have a weight of 3 (guide Table 6). TASP is the total weighted standard score.- In each test a third of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones: the raw score (net). Every grade level has four tests of 20 questions each; 80 questions in all, 100 minutes.
- Each net becomes a standard score with mean 50 and SD 10, using that test’s mean and SD. MEB does not publish these statistics, so this step and the next ones cannot be done here.
- The standard scores are multiplied by 3 and added: the total weighted standard score (TASP).
- The TASP is mapped linearly to the İOKBS score so that the smallest gives 100 and the largest 500. Students with tests cancelled for cheating whose TASP falls below the smallest TASP get 100.
Example
Grade 7, Turkish 14 correct, 3 wrong: net 14 − 3 ÷ 3 = 13; blank 20 − 14 − 3 = 3. Mathematics 11 correct, 4 wrong: net 11 − 4 ÷ 3 = 9.67.
Frequently asked questions
Do wrong answers cost points in the scholarship exam?
Yes. In each test a third of the wrong answers is taken from the correct ones; three wrong answers cancel one correct answer. Blank questions do not affect the net (2026 İOKBS guide, 11(c)).
What score wins the scholarship?
The guide sets no fixed winning score. Scholarships are allocated within the quotas and the winners are announced with the results; the “cut-off scores” found online are not values MEB publishes in the guide. In 2026 İOKBS, 70,000 students won a scholarship.
Are PYBS and İOKBS the same exam?
İOKBS is the current name of MEB’s scholarship exam, MEB’s 2016 guide was titled “Parasız Yatılılık ve Bursluluk Sınavı (PYBS) Başvuru ve Uygulama e-Kılavuzu” (free boarding and scholarship exam). The 2026 guide is titled “İlköğretim ve Ortaöğretim Kurumları Bursluluk Sınavı (İOKBS) Başvuru ve Uygulama Kılavuzu”.
When does the scholarship start?
Under the guide the scholarship is paid from the start of the October after the student who won it enrols. A student placed in free boarding does not also get the scholarship (guide 13.1).
